Minnsesota is the land of 10,000 lakes, and just as many love stories. Love in the Land of Lakes brings you seventeen of these stories, from two childhood sweethearts connecting on the end of a dock on a warm summer's evening, to a city boy's chaotic weekend at his girlfriend's primitive cabin. We bring you the story of a savvy horse who leads her owner to love in post–Civil War farm country, and the haunting romance of an ageless gambler who inhabits a historic riverboat and charms the boat's new owner.
A kaleidoscope of sunshine, snowstorms, and thunderstorms grace our contemporary, mystery, historical, and paranormal stories as the authors of Midwest Fiction Writers spin lovely romances that will send you drifting into happily ever afters.

And now from Jody Vitek.......
One of my memories as a child growing up isn’t very romantic but
could be easily spun into a romance lake story. My family went on a day trip
out to a western Minnesota lake with some other families. When we left for the
day, my brother and I weren’t alone while splashing in the lake. We were
covered in Chigger bites. Oh, the itch! Needless to say, I remember being
covered in Calamine lotion and taking oatmeal baths once we made it home to be
covered with more Calamine lotion. I’m thankful, knocking on wood, I have not
had another case that I can recall since then.
It’s funny how over the years I have distanced myself from going
swimming in lakes. I prefer to swim where I can see what I’m in and what’s
around me. Weeds terrify me. I’m afraid of what is lurking in them. When I was
a young teenager, while floating on my stomach in the swim area of a lake on an
inner tube, a fish came up and bit a mole I have on my stomach. Maybe I could use
that as my excuse of my fear. I don’t know. I lived my summers swimming at the
local lakes, so this fear came with age. The ocean doesn’t bother me like the
dark lake waters do.
From all of this, I do love going to sit by the lake, take in the
scenery and appreciate the beauty of what they have to offer. This is why I
jumped at the chance to write a love story for the Midwest Fiction Writers
anthology, Love in the Land of Lakes.
My short story, Roadside Catch, takes
place in the Brainerd Lakes area north of the Twin Cities. Aimee Harwell swore
off relationships with doctors, until Marc Robinson finds her injured on the
roadside and has her rethinking the possibilities.

Lee Ann, thank you for having me here today at Author in the House. I just finished reading the stories in the anthology and each story is fantastic in there own way. Reading the book had me wanting to be on vacation up north. I'll have to wait until June.
ReplyDeleteFunny! I wonder what the fish believed that mole was? An insect?? I still love swimming in lakes, and or boating, though I don't get much opportunity these days. I can't wait for the JoaN for this anthology. :0)
