Naomi Clark Is In The House!

Today I'm delighted to have another Evernight author in the house.  I have a few Evernight titles out myself and some of my favorite authors write for Evernight Publishing.  Naomi Clark is here to tlak about writing and about her release Bound By Night.  So, with Naomi in the house, let's get acquainted.

Here's her bio:

Naomi Clark lives in Cambridge and is a mild-mannered office worker by day, but a slightly crazed writer by night. She has a perfectly healthy obsession with giant sea creatures and a preference for vodka-based cocktails. When she's not writing, Naomi is probably either reading or watching 80s cartoon shows, and sometimes she manages to do all three at once.

And here's the cover and blurb for Bound By Night!

Bound by Night

Fleeing her arranged marriage, Adeline seeks sanctuary in Geistheim Abbey. Within its cursed walls she finds the beautiful, scarred monk, Daghan, who offers her sanctuary - for a price. Daghan needs a pure soul to break his curse. Adeline isn't sure how pure she can be when she lusts after this stranger so badly. But before they can find out, Adeline's cruel fiance arrives at Geistheim to reclaim her. And he won't leave without a fight.

And now let's talk shop - writing and more!

What’s your favorite thing about being a writer/author?

Creating new worlds and characters, and building them up. I love starting new stories and not knowing where they're going to take me.

What’s your least favorite thing?

Editing! I'm much better at editing other people's work – with my own I tend to just see what I think I've written and I miss lots of little mistakes.

Do you read the same genre that you write? Why or why not?

I do – I mostly read urban fantasy and paranormal romance, but I'm a fan of crime and historicals too. I'd love to move into writing noir mysteries, but for the moment I'm happy with the UF/PNR stuff. I love the otherworldly, magical aspect of it, and how creative you can be.

Favorite authors or books (just list a few):

Oh, so hard! At the moment I'm loving Stacia Kane, LM Pruitt, Amanda Hocking, Michael Grant, and Sarah Diemer.

What was the first thing you ever wrote?

A short story about stars when I was at primary school. Actually it was less a story and more a list of things I knew about stars with some pictures. But most of what I knew about stars back then, I'd made up, so it was technically fiction.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

I love making perfume and watching MMA. Last year I took up D&D as well, so that's a good way to get away from the computer but still feel creative.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose?

I've always said I'd like a cottage by the sea on the North coast of England. Room for a donkey and a herb garden are a must!

What’s your current project and what’s coming next for you as an author?

I'm working on a new gothic/historical romance novella for my Brides of Darkness series, called the Crow Bride. After that I'll be editing an urban fantasy novel called Undertow, starring my favourite character, possessed PI Ethan Banning. I'm hoping to see that published later this year.

What other occupation do you have (or did have) in addition to writing?  Or, in short, what’s your day job?

I'm a PA for a doctor and my day job covers everything from sending her to Japan to arranging lectures and keeping accounts. It's very busy and challenging, but I need that in a day job. When I'm bored, I'm also terribly lazy and unproductive.

.
Self-promotion – love it or hate it?

I feel terribly awkward about doing it, but I accept it's a necessary evil! I enjoy blogging and Twitter, but I'll never be a hardcore self-promoter; I just don't have that marketing mindset, sadly!

Tell us one thing about yourself your readers and online friends probably don’t know.

I love early 90s rap music.

Share one guilty secret.

Whenever I arrange food and drink for a lecture at work, I always keep back a slice of cake for myself.
